An article in our local Seaford Star by Dr. Anthony Policastro has some powerful observations, on cell phones and driving. "There was a 1950's song titled Seven Little Girls. The idea of the song was that there were 7 girls hugging and kissing in the back seat with Fred. No one was with the driver. The chorus went: "Keep your mind on the driving, keep your hands on the wheel, keep your snoopy eyes up on the road ahead."
As we all have seen or experienced ourselves, cell phones and driving are not the ideal partners. Another interesting quote from the article: "What we know about cell phone usage in cars is that the accident rate is similar to what we see in drunk drivers."
We can't stop progress, but if we understand that a problem exists, maybe we can lessen its effect. BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!
On another subject, Delaware Senate Bill 194. This bill would limit some recent marginal uses of the governments power of "eminent domain," In some parts of the state the local governments are declaring certain areas blighted, taking the property by eminent domain, then turning it over to developers. This bill seeks to eliminate the practice of government working as a silent partners with real estate developers.
I am not sure this bill is on target. Land purchased by eminent domain is paid for, supposedly
at fair market value. Land owners do have a responsibility to the public, and the government must not interfere without just cause. To narrow a just cause definition, might not be the best interest of either party.
