The Indian River Power Plant wants to build a new, lined fly ash landfill. The existing fly ash landfill is topping out at 100 feet, is unlined and in a coastal zone. This is not a good thing. Fly ash is the wast from burning coal and it contains arsenic and mercury and God only knows what else. The land fill should not be in a coastal flood zone. It should have at least a double liner.
What about the existing landfill that is full with no liner? What is leaching out of that landfill. The whole plant is an antique. This plant should be converted to natural gas or rebuilt to the newest technology in a coal fired plant. If coal is the answer, then let the power company put the fly ash back into the railroad cars that bring the coal in, and return it to the depleted coal mines it can from.
The State has no balls on this issue, the lobbyists win again!

Re-Do the Indian River Power Plant
Wind Power for Delaware
Wind Power took a positive turn when Bluewater Wind and Delmarva Power signed an agreement to build a wind farm off the coast of Rehoboth Beach, DE. The contract states that Delmarva Power would purchase 200 megawatts of power from Bluewater for 25 years. Bluewater could increase capacity up to 600 megawatts, if it can find customer other customers in Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey or Pennsylvania. The cost, of course, is to be born by Delmarva Power's customers.
Finally a start to reducing our dependence on coal to produce electric power.
